I was getting excited, mostly because I wanted to outdo myself. I wanted to push the limit because I knew my client would be happy with the end product. Oliver's Coffee typically utilises a grungy, funky look for the majority of their designs so I felt a clean and fun look would complement their stores nicely.
The cup design process morphed from a colourful design with dogs running through a park to funky trees and Muskoka chairs before arriving at the catchy 'Muskoka wellness themed' phrases, acting as a wallpaper and covering the cup. I think there was a total of close to twenty revisions before arriving at the final design and we were ready for printing.
The colours I chose for the new blue cup design were very mellow, a trio of soothing blues, creating a serene feeling - Perfect for a coffee shop in cottage country. The sayings on the cup incorporate a combination of Oliver's philosophy as well as a Muskoka life philosophy. Quotes such as 'Life is good - Drink coffee' and 'Hug your dog' were used, stemming from John English's (owner) dog who's name Oliver was the inspiration for his coffee shop.
The Oliver's Coffee hot cup design project was one of my favourite projects to date. We finished this design back in March and it is very cool to see the cups I've designed being handed out at stores now, especially since Oliver's Coffee is such a popular destination in Muskoka. I was flattered to hear at the end of this project that they were thankful I had pushed them out of their comfort zone because they were so happy with the end product.
